U. S. Passport Information
|
- You must be a U.S. or Naturalized Citizen.
- Complete a passport application from the Register of Deeds office in the courthouse or from the internet website at www.travel.state.gov Must be completed in black ink.
- Proof of citizenship in the form of a birth certificate or naturalization certificate must accompany the application. It will be returned with the passport.
- Requires 1 passport picture that can be taken at LaPorte's or Walgreens.
- You must show valid driver's license or a Michigan State I.D.
- Passports take 4-6 weeks.

Birth Records Information

| Birth records are not public records and can only be obtained by the individual or the parents of the individual either in person or through the mail.
In Person: Submit driver's license or three pieces of I.D. including at least one picture I.D.
By Mail: Download and print off the attached Birth Certificate Application including father's name, mother's maiden name, and a copy of driver's license to:

Death Certificate Information

Necessary information to obtain a death certificate is as follows:
Death Certificate Application Form Name and Date of Death. Mother's and Father's name is necessary if date of death is unknown.

Assumed Names Information
|
| A form from the County Clerk's Office must be completed. Or you can download, print and complete (all but signatures that have to be signed in front of a Notary Public) the attached Form: DBA Application Form
If there is more than one owner, all owners must sign the business registration form, in the presence of a Notary Public.
If the business is owned by a Corporation, a copy of the corporate papers is required (first and last pages only, with signatures of corporate officers.
If registering the name of a franchise, include a copy of the Franchise Agreement (first and last pages only).

Marriage License Information
|
To obtain a marriage license:
- Preferably both applicants must appear to fill out an application. Applicants 16 years of age must appear with a parent or guardian and present his/her birth certificate, as well as picture identification for the parent or guardian.
- Michigan residents must apply in the county of residence and then can be married in any county in the state. Non-residents must apply in the county the marraige will take place
You may also download, print and complete attached Marriage License application before coming into the office, please download both pages. When filling out the application, at least one signature must be notarized or signed in our office.
Marriage Application
Please note that there is a three day waiting period after filling out an application before the license may be obtained. Marriage license is valid for 30 days -- marriage must be performed within that 30 days.

Notary Public Information
|
Qualifications: You must be 18 years of age or older, a Michigan resident, and reside in Delta County.
Procedure: An application from the Delta County Clerk's Office must be completed and returned to the Clerk's Office with a $10,000.00 (ten thousand dollars) surety bond and payment of a $10.00 (ten dollars) processing fee to Delta County. The applicant must then mail the application an a check or money order for $10.00 (ten dollars) to the State of Michigan. The Notary Certificate is mailed directly to the applicant.

To Register to vote you must be:
- a U.S. citizen
- at least 18 years of age by election day
- a resident of Michigan and the city or township where you are applying to register to vote.
You must register 30 days prior to an election to be eligible to vote.
You can register to vote for federal, state, and local elections by mail: at your county, city or township clerk's office, or by visiting any of the 178 Secretary of State branch offices located throughout the state.
Absentee Voter: If you register by mail, you must vote in person at your assigned precinct the first time you vote, unless you are:
- disabled as defined by state law
- 60 years of age or older
- temporarily residing overseas
To Vote: Simply appear at your assigned polling place on election day. The polls are open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m.
You may vote with an absent voter ballot if:
- you are unable to vote without assistance;
- you are 60 years of age or older.
- you expect to be absent from your city or township on election day.
- you are in jail, awaiting arraignment or trial
- you have been assigned to work as a precinct inspector in a precinct other than where you are registered
- you are unable to attend the polls because of religious beliefs.
